State of Kansas Has Issued a Waste and Recycling Workers Week Proclamation

TO THE PEOPLE OF KANSAS, GREETINGS:

WHEREAS: The men and women employed by the local refuse collection and hauling companies that are contracted by the Sate of Kansas make a significant contribution to the safety, health, and welfare or our citizens; and

WHEREAS: With an area spanning 82,278 square miles and thousands of miles of roads, Kansas depends on the rain-or-shine collection of waste and recyclables to promote a clean and safe community; and

WHEREAS: According to the Center for Disease Control, the eradication of many diseases in the Western World is due in large part to higher public sanitation standards resulting from effective garbage disposal; and

WHEREAS: The proper collection and disposal of waste and recyclables are vital to preventing disease, litter and dump heaps; and

WHEREAS: The state of Kansas values and celebrates our local sanitation industry employees for their commitment to our residents, businesses and communities:

NOW, THEREFOR, I LAURA KELLY, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF KANSAS, do hereby proclaim the day of June 17th, 2019 as

Waste & Recycling Workers Week

In Kansas and encourage all citizens to participate in this observance.
