State of Alabama Waste and Recycling Workers Week Proclamation

By the Governor of Alabama

WHEREAS, the people employed by local recycling collection and hauling companies in the state of Alabama make significant contributions to the safety, health and wellbeing of our citizens; and

WHEREAS, with an area spanning 52,419 square miles and thousands of miles of roads, Alabama depends on the collection of waste and recyclables to promote a clean and safe community; and

WHEREAS, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the eradication of many diseases in the Western World is due in large part to higher public sanitation standards resulting from effective garbage disposal; and

WHEREAS, the proper collection and disposal of waste and recyclable are vital to preventing disease, litter, and dump heaps; and

WHEREAS, the state of Alabama values and celebrates its sanitation industry employees for their commitment to our residents, businesses, and communities in keeping our neighborhoods and streets safe and clean;

NOW THEREFORE, I, Kay Ivey, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim June 12 through 19, 2022 as

Waste and Recycling Workers Week

in the state of Alabama.
