Hollywood Trash Talks Trash Workers

Hollywood Sign - Waste and Recycling Workers Week

Hollywood Still Doesn’t Understand

Tonight is the 72nd Golden Globe Awards where Hollywood rolls out the red carpet to celebrate the past year’s accomplishments in film and television. While this particular awards show is known for poking more fun than others, like the Oscars, they may have gone too far last year. In a joke trying to belittle actor Matt Damon, hosts Amy Poehler and Tina Fey called him “basically a garbage person” in comparison with the others in that room.

  • Poehler: “Matt Damon is here for Behind the Candelabra. Matt, on any other night in another room, you would be a big deal. But tonight, and don’t take this the wrong way, you’re basically a garbage person.”

They may have got a laugh from the crowd but this just highlights how little Hollywood and mainstream media understand about the true value of garbage workers. Imagine the impact on those people’s daily lives if suddenly there was no one to pickup their trash or recycle their waste. They’d definitely be in a mess then!

Waste and Recycling Workers Week appreciates all sanitation workers for their tireless efforts and often thankless work that keeps us and our environment safe and clean!
