Hello Fall! 4 Ways to Change with the Season

Say Hello to Fall and Get Ready to Change with the Seasons - Waste & Recycling Workers Week

Fall means different things across the country. For some it means vibrant landscapes, trips to orchards for apple picking and preparation for the winter months ahead. For others it means a break from the summer heat and tourists vacating local beaches to return home. No matter what climate you live in, Autumn is a time of change.

This seasonal change is a great opportunity to enact change in your home and routine. If spring is for cleaning up, then fall is for cleaning out. From your home to your headspace, fall is a great time to get on track to end your year strong. Here are some tips to get you started.

Clean out your closets

…and your drawers, and anywhere else you may have old items lurking around. Swap out your summer wardrobe and unpack your winter collection. As you rotate your seasonal clothes, donate any that you have not worn in over a year. Get rid of space-wasting items like shoes that don’t fit, socks with holes and anything that is broken or that you don’t use.

Set your priorities

The fall season is symbolic of change, and change is an opportunity for growth and improvement. Set time aside to review your mental to-do list and get it down on paper. If you have goals for the year, evaluate your progress. If you don’t have any, now is a great time to make some.

Go through your list and determine what you need to get done and what you want to get done. Compare those to your goals and set your priorities based on what is necessary, what is optional, and what will help you work toward your goals.

Get outside

All those leaves piling up in your lawn are an invitation to get outside and breathe in some fresh fall air. While you are raking up leaves, take note of any lawn or home maintenance that needs attention. Clear any debris from your driveway, curbside and walkways. Trim overgrown trees and hedges. Check for any visible damage on your home that needs to be addressed. Getting started now will help you better prepare for winter weather and set you up for success for next spring.

Enjoy the weather

Winter can be cold, cloudy and wet. Fall is a great opportunity to get some outdoor time before winter sets in. Sneak in one last beach trip, head out for a weekend hike or plan a picnic with friends. Whatever you do, be sure to make the time to enjoy the season.

Bonus: Say Thanks

Remember to say “Thank You” to your garbage workers. They will be coming by each week to pick up those leaves and yard waste along with the junk you clean out of your closets. A little thanks goes a long way.

From all of us at Waste & Recycling Workers Week, have a great Autumn!
