Department of Public Works and Environmental Services Division of Solid Waste Celebrates Waste and Recycling Workers Week

Just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for what I believe was a very successful GMD event at our I-66 Transfer Station yesterday. As with last year, it felt like the drivers and helpers in the trucks that came through really appreciated—well—our show of appreciation for the work they do. It’s not that often that you get to have so many nice conversations and see so many smiles. These folks were just genuinely happy to have a group of us out there to recognize the work they do and hear the heartfelt thanks we offered them. They are rock stars!

The water, the SDTGA cooler bags, and the “5 To Stay Alive” flyers were just the icing on the cake. In all, we had 161 trucks come across our scales between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., and we handed out several hundred bottle of ice cold water and nearly 200 of our specially printed SDTGA cooler bags. We couldn’t have done this without your help—and probably the help of others I am missing here.

Big thanks to David Biderman (SWANA) and Jordan Schultz (Waste Dive) for making time to come by. It was great to have you guys there to support what we were doing!
