City of St. Augustine – Government, #WRWW

We can’t celebrate #WasteAndRecyclingWorkersWeek without featuring Bob Reardon, Operator II!

What do you do? I drive a garbage truck and collect garbage, recycling, and brush in Lincolnville, as well as pick up residential and commercial garbage in the downtown core. This is especially difficult, since the streets are extremely narrow and there are so many one-way streets.

Why do you do what you do? That’s easy… because I love my job, my coworkers, and our customers! For the past 16 years, I have had the opportunity to provide exceptional service to my friends and neighbors. Especially during COVID, it has been a comfort to me knowing that I am a comfort to others – no matter how bad it gets, we (Solid Waste employees) will always be there. Our residents can depend on us!

What do you do during hurricanes? Before the storm, I collect trash and anything that may become flying debris during high winds. After the storm, I am part of the first responder crew that is allowed in the City. We work to clear the streets, so residents can return to their homes as soon and safely as possible.

What do you do outside of work? I love to spend time with my girlfriend of 15 years, Karen, Jaiden (my grandchild who I am raising), my 4 kids, and 8 grandchildren. We like to go to the beach and play sports, especially football and soccer.
